DESCRIPTION:
John Pepys, London, England, clock watch, striking the hours in passing and repeating the last hour at will, key wind and set, gilt full plate movement, pierced and engraved balance cock and regulator plate, with five round baluster form pillars, verge escapement, decorative steel balance, Tompion regulator, and engraved strike barrel in a gilt, hinged back and bezel, consular open face case and Roman numeral, white enamel dial, blued steel beetle and poker hands, serial #2283, 50mm, c1700.
CONDITION:
CASE: Not original to the movement, probably re-cased during the 19th century; Minor overall pitting and scratches. DIAL: Hairlines in enamel, very light; A few tiny edge flakes; Scratches minor to dial; Replaced dial, probably replaced when the new case was made. HANDS: Minute hand replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Time spring barrel with spots of verdigris; Specks of dirt / dust. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks). COMPLICATION FUNCTION: Functions properly, gathering pallet should be reoriented in order to allow train to start without load.
